01Why now

Etsy changed the rules for printed things.

Since June 2025, Etsy’s Creativity Standards say that items made with a 3D printer must be based on the seller’s own original design. A design you licensed from someone else, even with a commercial licence, now puts the listing at risk.

And every sale still pays for the privilege: a listing fee, 6.5% of the order, payment processing, and up to 15% more when one of Etsy’s ads brought the buyer. The customer is Etsy’s, not yours. You can’t email them about your next batch.

On your own shop, the only rules are yours and your licences’.

Do you take a cut of my sales?

No, not on any plan. Card payments go straight to your own Stripe account, and Stripe charges its usual fee (2.9% + 30¢ in the US). Cash costs nothing.

Is Gyroid another marketplace?

No. It’s your own website at your own address. Customers come to you by your name, your socials and word of mouth, and they stay your customers: you can email them, and they come back to you rather than to a page of your competitors.

Can I keep selling on Etsy?

Yes. Plenty of sellers will keep Etsy for being found and send repeat customers to their own shop. The price tool shows what each sale leaves you on both.

Which files can customers upload for a quote?

STL, 3MF and OBJ, up to 50 MB. The file is measured in the customer’s browser, then measured again on your shop’s server, so nobody can set their own price. You confirm every quote before anything prints.

Which printers does it know?

Any FDM or resin printer: you give it the bed size. There are presets for Bambu Lab (A1 mini, A1, P1S, P2S, X1 Carbon, H2D), Prusa (MK4S, CORE One, XL, MINI+), Creality, Elegoo, Anycubic and Voron, and a few resin printers.

What does the demo shop show, and what comes at launch?

The demo runs the real software: the shop, instant quotes, order tracking, cash on collection, and the workshop side with orders, printer queues and filament. Card payments, your own domain, sliced-file import and profit on each order arrive at launch.

When does it launch?

We’re building it now, with ten founding shops. The waitlist hears first.

What do you do with my details?

We keep your email and whatever you tell us about your shop, to let you know about Gyroid. We don’t share them, and we’ll delete them whenever you ask. More on privacy.
